YCIT is located in Yancheng, an open coastal city and the home of the New Fourth Army, oriental wetlands as well. Its predecessor was the Yancheng College of Technology founded in 1958 and the Yancheng Vocational College founded in 1985. These two institutions were merged into YCIT by the ratification of the National Education Committee and the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province in May 1996.
　　Today, YCIT has extensive floral landscaping provides for a serene setting. With a total area of 154 hectares and floor space of 337,000 square meters, its teaching facilities are valued over RMB108.25 million yuan. The library contains over 1，156，900 volumes of books and subscribes to more than 1,500 periodicals and newspapers in both Chinese and foreign languages. Totally, the fixed assets are worth about RMB520 million. YCIT enrolls 15,000 full-time four-year students studying over 39 degree programs within 14 Academic schools. These schools include: Mechanical Engineering, UGS College, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Electric and Information Engineering, Material Engineering, Civil Engineering, Textile Engineering, Business Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, Design and Art, Higher Vocational Education, Adult Education, Long Distance Education, as well as Boya Non-Governmental School. Now YCIT has emerged as a comprehensive institute with various disciplines of Engineering, Management, Economics, Science and Art, with Engineering as its primary focus.
